Feel The JOY! Dance Like No One Is Watching!

Feel the Joy - Dance Like No One is Watching!

I don't know about the rest of you, but dancing just makes me feel good - SO good! And don't we all want to just feel good? I have always been a big 'music' person, as I am sure many of you are - there are so many different kinds of music to enjoy - and I love so many kinds of music - classical, country, pop, latin, reggae and reggaeton, and of course just plain amazing ballads, where I can 'belt it out' along with Barry, Barbra, Whitney or Celine in my car or house when no one is home, it's just so fun!!

My music list goes on and on, but I have to say that 'dance music' is one of my all time favorite genres. Why? Because I just love to dance - any of you fabulous ladies out there with me on this? And I don't mean I trained as a dancer or have any special skill to do it. I mean I have always just loved getting up on that dance floor at a club with live or DJ music and dancing my heart out - like Dancing Queen' was written just for and about ME!!! Anyone else out there feel that way about dancing? I hope so, cause it brings such joy to the soul!!

My love of dancing goes way back to the good old 70s, 80s and beyond, in my 'youth' - 20s/30s+ - I lived to go out to the clubs with my girlfriends and dance the night away - we had so much fun together.

And now - in my mid 50s, whenever I put on any of those old songs like Abba, Donna Summer,  (I really loved disco, and I happy to admit that, even in public!!), Michael Jackson, Kool and the Gang, Prince etc, it brings me right back to those great dancing days, and I feel 25 again. Not that I want to or need to be 25 again, quite the contrary, I am very content right at the age I am thank you - but it is such a timeless feeling to move to the music, without a care in the world.

Because I find when I am dancing, I am not thinking about my 'to do list' for the week, or the things/people that pissed me off today at work, or my worries over finances and commitments - I am simply 'in the music' and in the moment - which really means dancing is a form of a mindfulness practice I think - you are in the moment, feeling pure joy as your body is moving to the beat, as you are singing those words you still know by heart from 30 plus years ago. And I really believe and advocate that you should never stop dancing, (at home alone or in public) no matter what age you are - I know it can be hard to go out dancing at our age - but it shouldn't be, and don't let it be.

I know, none of us 'mature' women want to go out to a crazy crowded club crawling with 25 year olds - been there done that - about 30 years ago thank you!  But if you search your city, you will be able to find a place/club or special event with dancing where the age group is more conducive to your comfort zone - cause dancing home alone or with your kids is great fun too (my 9 year old son and I do it all the time), but being out with a live DJ or band and a crowd with energy, a group of girlfriends, and social opportunities - there is nothing like it!

And we don't have to give up that experience just cause we are not 25 anymore - no way!!  So, get out there and try it sometime, and when you do - make sure to dance just as freely as you did in your 20s and 30s, just dance like no one is watching!
