One of the best and easiest ways to diet for weight loss and good health is maintaining a whole foods diet. You can never go wrong with clean eating and staying healthy. What it means is eating whole foods in the state as found in nature or close to it. Basically, little to no processing at all! No genetically engineered, chemical filled foods. We are talking about Whole foods as Mother Nature Intended. In case you are still confused we are talking mostly organic fruits meats and veggies. No list of ingredients should be included in the previous list with grains especially.

Let's be very clear. Farming and agriculture are huge businesses now the more they can, cheapen a product to stretch a dollar to make more dollars they will. Agriculture is no longer about the best quality whole foods for the betterment of the people. For the most part it's about processing, chemical preservatives, fillers, sugar and any other number of death dealing methods. Ok, that's a bit harsh but it's true. Clean...

One of my favorite activities is reading and I usually read a number of books at once. I will read a cereal box, if it is the only readable content sitting in front of me. Books are strategically placed though out my house. Personal development books in the living room, maybe one or two at my bedside, some travel magazines in the bathroom and one purely for enjoyment that I read when I am doing cardio at the gym. I use all these books to motivate me and keep my mind open to new ideas. Motivation...that seems to be coming up for me a lot lately. I have been asked to speak to a group of people about how I stay motivated, how I stay focused on a goal and follow it through to the end. One of the most important things I need to stay motivated is energy, if I am tired....I just do not feel motivated to do anything. And like so many of my Fabulous@50 friends, energy is a challenge sometimes....

During one of my many networking meeting, I was invited to a grand opening of a new business in town. I am always open to new information and ideas, so I went. I enjoyed the beautifully decorated office, ate the delicious food and meet some really interesting people. On the tour of the office I spent some time with Sharon, she is the consultant who deals with the Hormone Replacement Therapy clients. Of course being in the midst of "hot flashes, fatigue, weight gain and a term I had never heard before " tired but wired", I was more than interested. I went for my blood work a few weeks ago and no wonder I have been feeling like a old lady lately, I am out of hormones!!! I know that HRT isn't for everyone, but for me I felt it was something I wanted to investigate. I have an appointment with the compounding pharmacy to pick up my first prescriptions and then they deliver the prescription...

September is only a few weeks away and the world around us is preparing for the new school year. Flyers, ads on TV and radio, the stores are filled with families shopping for school supplies and clothing.

As a child, my grandfather was responsible for taking me out shopping for school clothes and supplies. I can remember taking the trolley bus downtown, hand in hand with my grandpa...an eventful day. Back then we only needed a small amount of school supplies, unlike the endless list they get now. I would get one pair of leather shoes from the German Shoe Store next to the Army & Navy and a pair of runners for gym class. We didn't have a big budget, but good shoes were important. I remember back to school being a magical time, excited and scared all at once. Would I get a nice teacher, would that cute boy be sitting next to me? And the most important, would my best friend...

When was the last time you actually told someone how great YOU were! I was at an event last year and the instructor handed out a folder and inside my folder was the sentence "I am kind of a big deal." She made us all read our sentences out loud and I have to admit, the statement made me feel uncomfortable. As women of the baby boomer generation, we struggle with blowing our own horns. My favorite poem was written for Nelson Mandela, I have it hanging in my house, so I can be read it whenever I am feeling small and dull. Here is to all the diamonds in the fabulous@50 community. Shine brightly, so everyone can see the way!

Fabulously yours, Dianna Bowes

50, is that old or young? I guess that depends on who you ask. During the media blitz on the death of Michael Jackson and Farrah I began to think how sad it was that although they both went through a variety of surgeries to look different or younger, neither one of them had a chance to get old. Maybe embracing aging should be the norm, instead of fighting so hard to hide it. On the other hand, Farrah and Michael, were very talented people who changed the world and took so many risks in their careers. When you are in the entertainment business, there is a fine line between success and falling flat on your face. Brittany Spears is another example, of someone who continues to take the risk of falling on her face, but continues to forge forward. You have to admire her for that. For close to 40 years, I was not much of a risk taker, I was just awful at making decisions on anything, because...

Laurie Brenner - EzineArticles Expert AuthorDo you get the feeling that you are hungry for something, but you don't know what it is? It's as if you can taste it on your tongue, but you can't describe it to anyone, not even to yourself. It's like a thirst that fluids won't quench -- it's a desire to know more -- but from a source you can trust. Are you looking for the answers to your questions, but don't know where to turn?

The answers to all your questions lay within you. The solution is to find out how you can get access to them, objectively and through a clear lens so that you can find the steps you need to take in any situation. All of your answers are bound up in your intuition. To get to them, you need to develop your intuition.

I have to…. I must…. I should…. How many times have you started a sentence off like that?

The impression is that you're not good enough as you are and you must/should/need to make changes in order to be good enough.  Ouch.  I'm here to tell you to stop “shoulding” all over yourself.  It only serves to stress you out and make you beat yourself up.

You may want to weigh less.  But why?  Do you feel like it's something you should do or have to do or will only feel good about yourself if you do?

How about this instead: I like myself as I am – extra weight and all.  In order to be healthier and live longer, I CHOOSE to release some extra weight.  And if I don't, I love myself anyway.  Chances are, from this place, it will come easier than it does when feeling the need to change in order to be better and more lovable.

Here are some tips to help you like yourself again so that you can make changes from a place of love rather than loathing:

See what you like.  Look in the mirror...

As a yoga teacher, I am blessed to witness daily, the laws of physics turned upside-down.

This 5,000-year-old practice from India, which has popularizing trendy stretch pants and pretzel-bent workouts across the globe, can also, amazingly, reverse Sister Time and the effects of aging.

Yoga is no “miracle” creme, to be sure – but, over the years, I have watched many men and women, who’ve committed to a regular yoga practice, miraculously grow younger before my very eyes!

So, what is this fountain of youth, this nature-defying talisman, that seems to peel back the layers of time and give body and mind a nip ‘n’ tuck, without elective surgery?

This is the answer that has come to me, after hundreds of hours closely observing my students in class, and time spent on my yoga mat, being a student, myself:

Yoga looks at aging much...

“Even easy tasks will always be easier NOT to do. It’s why procrastination lives. Success comes when you choose to override your ‘common response’ and just get to it.”

~ Michelle Cederberg

Since 1990 I have worked as a personal trainer, group exercise leader, lifestyle coach, educator, author, and speaker and if there is one singular challenge my clients, participants and students have had difficulty overcoming it has been without a doubt not being able to get to all the things they want and need to do. Whether plagued by lack of time or lack of motivation, we’re putting our dreams on the shelf telling ourselves “I’ll get to it when I’m not so busy – tired – overworked…”. The dreams include anything you wish you could spend more time doing – exercise, eating right, building a business, writing, leisure activities, time with family and friends, hobbies, saving money for travel, even sleep – and feel you have no time, energy, or resources to get to. Forget finding enough time, you just need...

I know on the rare occasions I buy movie magazines, I’m always first to turn to the success stories: How So-and-so Built a New Body or How Whats’ername Dropped Three Dress Sizes in Three Weeks. I think it’s the vicarious pleasure I get from seeing a woman succeed with the weight battle and the momentary thrill that whispers if she can do it, maybe, just maybe, I can too!

As a professional writer, I am empowered by stories, particularly stories that have that shimmering ending. That being said, I am also a realist and, like the Zen Masters, I also know the journey must be enjoyed as much as the destination.

At the start of this year, on the eve of my 50th birthday, I was an overweight, middle-age woman with a hankering for change. One month later I am still an overweight, middle-age woman, but the difference is this: I have taken change in hand.

I started a workout program at a gym. I started watching the food that goes into my mouth and the wine that goes down my throat, and I made a major...

The word entheos is the root word for enthusiasm and means "in spirit" When we are filled with the spark of enthusiasm, we are literally filled with our true essence and this is why we feel so alive and energetic. I urge you to make a list right now of the things that make your heart sing. What do you that makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning?

Here are three things to do:

Make a list of your strengths and unique abilities

Make of things you find easy. (Remember what is easy for you is not easy for everyone else)

What do you love doing? What are your favorite pastimes, activities, projects, recreation, social activities, foods, hobbies and so on.

As you make your list you will realize that these things are your very own inspiration. You will understand that participating in the things you love to do is your purpose in life.

Each and every person has strengths and unique abilities. Once your make your list, then you can determine what type of jobs and activities...

In the day and age we’re in now, with the outer structure crumbling, there’s still a freedom of choice. The fundamental question is: do I let myself be caught in fear and insecurity, or do I choose to step up? If I choose to make a step, what is it based on, what is its foundation?

The value of a solid emotional and spiritual foundation

In order to make a step forward, it is very valuable to have a solid emotional and spiritual foundation. To be in harmony with and within oneself is one of our highest goods! The better the foundation - the better the results.

You already have more than enough information from the outside: books, television, family and friends. But what is it that actually works for you? What is it that makes you feel more whole and complete? What really nourishes you?

Finer Listening

A finer listening is essential. Learn to listen and hear what the signals in your body tell you. How you behave and how your body and mind respond to (hormonal) changes is as personalized as your fingerprints! When you’re connected with your body, you know what feels good and what doesn’t. You can sense what makes sense and what not. A good way to become familiar with your intuition and with what’s true for you is, to make this a daily practice. Little moments of listening will improve your hearing!...

Sometimes getting motivated is not the challenge, it is staying motivated. If you have experienced this, you are not alone. Motivation is often hindered by self-limiting behaviors or habits. Interestingly enough, many of these habits and patterns that we have developed are not really effective in keeping us motivated. According to Wikipedia, “motivation is the activation or energization of goal-oriented behavior.” Staying motivated is one of the most defining factors that separates high achievers from those who are less productive. A few consistent steps go a long way in the journey towards motivation. Start setting goals for yourself and put them in motion by taking steps toward reaching your goals everyday. Goals help us maintain focus and provide direction to achieve what we want in life. You can begin by changing up your some of your routines by trying the following:

Take a different route to work or your fitness class.  Read a book that is outside of your typical reading genre. ...

Re: Are you an original? Break Free From the Mold.
Thank you for speaking into my heart this morning. I have always been "the original" one - the one that never stayed with the status quo. Visionaries are like that. It is only recently that I can truly say that I am gifted and talented and YES Different than the woman who must please each person and put herself last. I still do please people and still do put myself last, but I do it because I want to- not because it is expected of me.
How do I become a part of the tribe you are running with?

Hi Diana. Belated congratulations on being awarded the WMCA Women of Distinction award! I just want to say hello and let you know I am thinking happy thoughts for you. I traveled in from Cold Lake for your first Fabulous @ 50 at the Lions Centre with my hand painted silk scarves. All the best!
Re: Are you an original? Break Free From the Mold.
My grandmother used to say "If you never looked in a mirror you would never know you were getting older". I have now lived long enough to know she was right. In her honor I am going out today to buy a perfectly fitted red bra, and I'm going to live, every day, at the age I feel when I don't look in the mirror.
Love your blog, thought provoking as always.
Cheers,
Lorraine
